The steps to follow: Begin with Practice On-Line Exams

1. Pick your grade
2. Pick the subject (Language Arts or Mathematics)
3. Take the “Comprehensive Pretest” at the top of the Index Page for your Grade Level
  • PretestIt is located on the top left hand side
  • Every Comprehensive Pretest follows the basics that a student should know for their current year
  • It is very long; you might want to do it in two days
  • Don’t worry about questions you don’t know, just complete the test as best as you can
  • DON’T GUESS FOR ANY QUESTIONS----DO ONLY WHAT YOU KNOW!!!
  • Do NOT do a second time, do only once.
  • Each grade has Phases a student goes through
    • Phase 1 = 3rd grade material
    • Phase 2 = 4th grade material
    • Phase 3 = 5th grade material
    • Phase 4 = 6th grade material
    • Phase 5 = 7th grade material
    • Phase 6 = 8th grade material

The COMPREHENSIVE PRETEST is testing the highest PHASE for the grade level the student is in.

    Example:
A fifth grade student will have a Comprehensive Pretest on Phase 3 material only.

4.

Review

Print the finished graded Comprehensive Pretest and note the topic references at the end of each question. These will help you find which topics to review within that Phase.

Additionally, each question also has a number and letter before the question text. The number represents the subject matter the test question is asking about i.e. Place Value.

ii.      The letter represents the level the question is testing the student on.

a.       A = lower than student's grade level

b.      B = on student's grade level

c.       C = above student's grade level

Example:
In fourth grade or Phase 2 of Mathematics the subject matter “Place Value” has the number 3.

If a student takes a fourth grade Comprehensive Pretest and he missed a problem with “A3” in front of the test question. Then it is likely the student is low in their understanding of Place Value. This reveals to the parent or instructor the areas that instruction would be needed.

EVERY STUDENT BEGINS PRACTICE WORK

ON PHASE ONE NO MATTER WHAT GRADE THEY ARE IN!!!
